September 2, 2025As part of the themes plus agenda of the working Governor of Lagos,healthcare initiatives for the citizens, the Executive chairman of Ikeja Local Government Hon. Engr Mojeed Balogun ( PhD) today Friday June 13th, 2025 demonstrated his commitment again by screening for prostrate cancer which is rated as the commonest cancer amongst men in Nigeria.To create more awareness for the programme,jingles production as well as motorized sensitization on the deadly disease and the golden opportunity availed by coming for the screening as early detection saves lives has been embarked upon.
The program commenced at exactly 9am with large turn out of male residents of Ikeja Local Government. The Ikeja Medical Officer Of Health,Mrs Tawak Folashade led the team and ensuring the smooth running of the program.The Apex community health officer,Mrs Adenariwo,coordinates all the health attendants, health educator Mrs Sanni Afolabi gave the opening sensitization/ enlightenment on what prostrate cancer is, symptoms,signs and diagnosis.she further explained the step by step process of the screening for men of 40 years and above. From the collection of forms, to their vitals being taken , proceed to table three for blood pressure screening/ hypertension screening and to P. S. A protein Specific Antigen, take the results to the doctors on ground to interprete and finally to the pharmacy table depending on their results, they were also given free take home drugs.
Representing the Executive chairman at the program while addressing the media the vice chairman, Ikeja Local Government Hon Yomi Musibau commended the initiative especially as the turnout was very impressive and all the process were free of charge. He affirmed the initiative is timely and the round peg in the right hole.
The MOH while responding to questions from the media explained the success of the program and the need to do a recheck again and again, according to her, the screening, early detection and improved prognosis ( outcome for those who are positive) will reduce n save more men’s lives. She expressed her gratitude to the Executive Chairman,whom she described as a great pillar, the council Manager Mrs Odubeko Juliana Taiwo for her support at all time and her team for the success of the program.
