The Education unit and Women affairs and poverty alleviation unit of Ikeja LG under the Engr. Mojeed Alabi Balogun led administration of the local council today made history as the newly established vocational and training institute of the local government held her maiden graduation ceremony as the institute celebrates over 130 new and pioneer students after months of intensive vocational and skill acquisition programme.
The programme which happened to be a tripartite event also included empowerment of small business owners and provision of basic education materials to public schools in Ikeja local government area.
Speaking at the event during her speech, the Chairperson of the council whom is also wife of the Executive Chairman, Chief Mrs Abigeal Balogun encouraged all graduands and empowerment beneficiaries to make themselves proud by aiming to be the best in their areas of operations.
“The administration of my husband, Engr. Mojeed Alabi Balogun is committed to poverty eradication, economic empowerment, financial independence and job creation for our people in Ikeja” – Chief Mrs Balogun said.
“Little wonder we got the best Local Government National award in Education and Poverty Alleviation category in the year 2022. This shows that efforts of the Chairman is well known across the country” – the Chairman’s wife posited.
Items given out as empowerment equipment include; Sewing machines, whipping machines, Grinding machines, Hair dryer and wash hand basin, Deep Freezer, Make-up box and accessories, Baking oven and Gas cylinder, Filling machines, as well as other related items.
In addition, cash grants was given out to petty business operators while packs of drinks and beverages was given out to soft drinks business owners.
Dignitaries at the event include; APC Ikeja LGA party Chairman, Alhaji Adekunle Dally Adeokun, party secretary, Hon. Sodiq Adeleke. Others include Ikeja LG members of legislative arm, executive cabinet members, and management staff of the council.
