Engr (Dr.) Mojeed Alabi Balogun, (MNSE, FPA)

Engineer Mojeed Alabi Balogun was elected Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government on 22nd July, 2017. Born into Balogun family of Isale Awori in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos state, Engineer Mojeed Balogun’s life journey has traversed the domains of communal, professional, international, political as well as public administration. He was raised in a family comprising eight siblings. His father Pa I.J Balogun is the Seriki Musulumi of Ikeja land while his mother, === is from the Fashola family of Ogudu Ojota in Lagos. Engineer Mojeed Balogun’s marriage to Mrs. Abigail Balogun is blessed with children.

On account of his humble background, Engineer Mojeed Balogun imbibed attributes of diligence and discipline earlier in life. The value he attached to education and professional trainings would later prepare him for the enviable journey that has earned him recognitions and laurels as a technocrat, administrator and politician. He had his primary education at the Local Authority Primary School, Ikeja between 1974 and 1979 and later proceeded to Anwar-ul-Islam College in Agege where for his School Certificate in 1984.

He proceeded to Lagos state Polytechnic, Isolo in 1986 and was awarded National Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 1988 in fulfilment of the burning desire to pursue creative career right from childhood. Fired by unusual zeal to become a professional in the field of engineering, his search for knowledge led him to the University of Science and Technology in Portharcourt in 1990 where he was awarded Bachelor of Technology in Chemical / Petroleum Engineering. His was at the University of Lagos for Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering between 2000 and 2002.  He was at IICSE University, USA between 2015 and 2018 for the Doctorate Degree in Environmental Engineering.

As an honorary corporate member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) since 2003, Engineer Mojeed Balogun professional and administrative experience spanned over two decades (between July 1989 and March 2004) of meritorious services at Dunlop Nig Plc, Pricadoz Nig Ltd and Fommat Ventures Ltd. His other awards of recognition in the course of discharging his professional responsibilities include:

  • Bauchi State Certificate of Honour (1998)
  • Bauchi Local Government Chairman’s Award (1998)
  • Institute of Journalism Award of Recognition as Society ICON in Grassroots Governance (2014).

Engineer Mojeed Balogun’s venturing into politics was a culmination of divine call to serve and the determination and boldness to engage politics a rather unusual way. With a Master Degree, he decision to view for councillorship elicited misgivings but unknown to many; it was a message about his mission in politics which essentially is to devote quality time and energy in the service of the community grassroots populace. Besides, his love for politics was stirred by foundation laid by his father who was a staunch member of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the Second Republic. As providence would have it, Engineer Mojeed Balogunn has emerged to occupy the same seat his father vied for under the UPN prior to the military coup that ended the Second Republic on December 31st, 1983. Engineer Mojeed Balogun’s political engagement since 2000 has been upbeat; yielding positive feats at the level of party administration and governance.
